Major CG Teschner - CO, 378th FS, 9th AF

Does anyone know the career of the above mentioned officer, who was CO of 378th FS? He was lent by the 362th FG to the 405th FBG to lead them on their first Fighter sweeps over France in April 1944.

Some unconfirmed reports of him suggest that he was from the 354th FG but this could have been his first unit before he was seconded to the 405th.

Thanks in advance

Thanks for the info

Does anyone know if he had any confirmed kills up to April 1944 and also if he had served in other theatres of war?

Leendert will become famous soon enough
Re: Major CG Teschner - CO, 378th FS, 9th AF

No knowledge of other theatres during WW II, but at least he also served in Korea and Japan as commander of 49th FBG during 1952-1953.

Leendert,

Thanks

I heard that Teschner had 1 1/2 victories credited to him before he was seconded to the 405th FBG for a few weeks.

In the 9th AF this was more than most pilots got because of the ground attack / strafing role given to P-47 units. However I would have thought he would have added to his score in the 354th FG as they did more of a fighter role than the other units.

Larry,

From Frank Olynyk's ETO lists, Maj. Charles G. Teschner of the 378th Ftr.Sqn. was credited with a Fw 190 on 3/27/44 and 1/2 share of a Ju 88 on 4/8/44, both destroyed.

Dear Tom,

Thanks for the update.

BTW I have never heard of Frank Olynyk's ETO lists.

Do you have a link for it?

Larry,

As far as I know these are not available on the web. Fifteen to twenty years ago Frank had printed up claims data from the various theaters of operations for all US air forces, Army, Navy & Marines in WW2. He also has claims lists for RAF 300 series and 400 series squadrons, as well as US WWI and post-WW2. I highly recommend them if you can find them. The lists are arranged in several ways for each volume, first by date, then by unit, and finally by individual pilot; extremely useful reference tools.

Frank Olynyk does post on this forum, so you might contact him to see if these lists are still available.

Tom

"Turk" Teschner served with the 15th PG from 1940-42. He was at Pearl Harbor but didn't get into the air on Dec. 7th.
