Spitfire P9558 of 54 Sqn lost 24/10/40 or 25/10/40

Can anyone supply a pilot of for Spitfire P9558 of 54 Sqn had an engine failure on practice dog fight at 17.55hrs and the aircraft was abandoned near Catterick on 25-10-40 or 24-10-40. The aircraft crashed at Round Hill Farm, Hackforth.

All indications I have is that it occurred on the 25-10-40. However, John Foreman has in Fighter Command Diaries a 54 Sqn accident loss Cat 5 on 24-10-40 (day earlier) but no further details and no loss on 25-10-40

I also have seen reference to this incident on 28-10-40. However, I am sure it is 25/10/40

I had this posted on RAFCommands, but other than confirming the crash location, no further information was forthcomming so I have posted here in hope!

Thanks

Paul

Alex,

Spitfires.ukf.net also has 25-10-40 nr Catterick with 54 Squadron.
Unfortunately no pilot's name here.

Reportedly had code KL-D.

Regards,

Leendert
