Hi, Fabia!

Rossosh is a very common name of place in Russia, there are some variants (Rossosh, Rossoshanka, Rossishka e.t.c.).

There was a sity Rossosh, S from Voronezh.

It was a base for

2./JG52 during 20.12.42 - 15.1.43.

II./Sch.G.1 during 6.12.42 - 22.12.42

Stab/KG27 and I./KG27 during 8.42 - 9.42

Fabio,

The Hungarian Staffel had Bf 109 F-4's. As for Hauptmann Frank Neubert's II./Sch.G.1, they were equipped with mixed assault types (Bf 109E fighter bombers, Hs 123's, early Hs 129's) but not Fw 190's, yet (several detailed report remained about their activity from this period).

Dear Csaba Becze, thanks for the info,
a witness has reported that there were also Stukas.

I agree that in an aerial base different aircrafts transited... is very difficult to find material of that base and period.

Do you know where the airport was? Are there some photos?

thanks for the information that you give to us.

Ciao
Fabio

Re: Rossosch, Russia

Fabio,

Rossosch is E from Waluiki, S from Swoboda (NW from Kantemirowka) It was behind the Italian 8th Army's units (and the above mentioned German and Hungarian units supported intensively the Italian troops here during December, 1942)

You can find easily the settlement via online maps
