NARA WWII Army Enlistment Records ?

I know its a bit off topic - as its has nothing specifically to do with air forces - but this question is relevant to me anyhow, and I wondered if someone here could provide the answer.

I have been guided to the NARA Access to Archival Databases and has been looking for Danes among the WWII Army Enlistment Records. Quite a number of Danish born men is among them. If I search for those who have "Race and citizenship" equals to "White, not yet citizen", i.e. presumably Danish citizens, I still get 676 hits. As the total number of Danes in allied service during the war is normally considered to be appr. 900 in predominantly British service this number is very high. I have therefore been wondering how to improve my serarch.

Doing this, I have been wondering about the field "Component of the Army." The majority of the men (665 of 676), I have found, has the following value in this field: "Selectees (enlisted men)", whereas a few others has "Army of the United States - includes the following: Voluntary enlistments effective December 8, 1941 and thereafter; One year enlistments of National Guardsman whose State enlistment expires while in the Federal Service; Officers appointed in the Army of the United States under Army Regulations 605-10" The full code list for this field can be seen here: http://aad.archives.gov/aad/popup-co...893&c_id=25002

I guess that "selectees" could be associated to the Selective Training and Service Act of 1940, but what I really wonder if the terminology would mean anything in relation to citizenship in the sense that people were drafted and did not volunteer.

Would anyone be an expert in these matters?

Hallo Mikkel,

I cannot really help you concerning your specific query. However just in case you had not found it the Enlistment Records are divided into two sections.
One is the standard Enlistment Records with over 8,700,000 names, while the second is the Reserve Corps Records with over 333,000 more names. On more than one occasion I have found someone I was looking for in the latter section.

I hope to post a query tonight or tomorrow concerning a Danish airman not listed on your fine website.
