Ju88A1 8/KG4 missing 12?-10-1940
Luftwaffe QM report of 13-10-40 shows 5J+AS wn. 2125 missing from an attack on England. It is hard to read this entry and all I could make out of the crew was Ff Hpt. von Glaskow and Bf Muller (both names are not very clear) , could any one confirm details please,

This loss occurred on October 12, 1940, as follows: 8./KG4 Junkers Ju88A-1 (2123). Sortied to London but crashed in the sea 2 miles south-west of Landguard Point while diving to avoid searchlights off Felixstowe 8.02 p.m. (Ff) Hptmn Waldemar von Glasow (Staffelkapitän), (Beo) Uffz Walter Gruner, (Bf) Uffz Emil Herz, and (Bs) Gefr Werner Giesecke all missing. Aircraft 5J+AS lost. Wreckage later recovered by trawler and landed at HMS Ganges, Shotley. |

Re: Ju88A1 8/KG4 missing 12?-10-1940
Hmmmm
This loss is NOT recorded in 1) Battle over Britain. Mason published in 1969 2) The Battle of Britain, now and then published in 1980 May I ask, how many other losses (from both sides) are not recorded in these two BoB books? I had some hopes that Christer Bergströms recent book about the battle should produce updates losslists, including damaged British aircraft, but no so... ![]() Cheers Stig |

Re: Ju88A1 8/KG4 missing 12?-10-1940
Guys,
Small piece of additional information taken from page 99 of "Air Raid" by Michael Bowyer. "Shortly after 20.00 a Ju 88 collided with a balloon cable and crashed into the water 2 miles SE of Languard Point. None of the crew survived, and the wreck was taken to HMS ganges for examination. At this time there were 24 balloons (10 waterborne) in the area. An hour and a half later another Ju88 inbound to intrude upon airfields was held in searchlights which dazzled the pilot, forcing him into the sea. "
