Bf109G-6 of IV/JG54 Spring 1944

Hi

Was wondering a bit more about this unit around Pskov in early 1944. Did the IV Gruppe still carry the yellow theatre markings around the fuselage cross or had it reverted to a simple band around the rear fuselage.

By mid 1944 I think they were operating the Fw190?

Just really confirmation on the yellow fuselage band.

regards

MS

Re: Bf109G-6 of IV/JG54 Spring 1944

I think by then the 109's only had the fuselage band and maybe a yellow oil cooler, not more yellow markings.

Yes, Fw190 came only when the unit went to Germany in later May 1944.

Please excuse hijacking this thread:
Acc. to ww2.dk, IV./JG54 left Heeresgruppe Nord end of March for Lemberg from 29.3.44 - 20.4.44.

But most claims during this period are in an area ca. 200km South of Lemberg, which indeed was frontline by then.

Therefore, I assume that the Gruppe was not really/only in Lemberg, but also used other airfields ("Absprungplätze") in the vicinity of the areas where the claims where filed. Maybe Iasi or so? Who has details on this?

Later, acc. to ww2.dk the Gruppe left Lemberg for Mamaia (which again is even further south), presumably to cover shipping between Romania and the Crimea.
