Do 17 emblem "Götz von Gerlichingen"
Hello,
Does anybody know more about this emblem (Götz von Gerlichingen) on a Do 17?: http://www.battlegroundrelics.com/al...n-berlichingen Also, does anybody know the meaning of the small black cross next to the dark stripe across the fuselage? "Gotz von Berlichingen" is a well known work written by Goethe in 1773.

Re: Do 17 emblem "Götz von Gerlichingen"
Thanks for the information. It seems that I am not so literate on classic literature :-) So, I missread the name "G" for "B".
Maybe it is not a personal emblem (which I first thought as I thought Götz von Berlichingen was the name of a pilot) but a unit emblem. Regards Roger |

5/KG 2 emblem. Note the red band on nose.

Hi Von Alles
I have this as 6./KG 2 as per Ketley and Rolfe, have I missed something? Cheers Chris Last edited by ChrisS; 30th December 2009 at 13:53. |

Hi Chris and von Alles,
Thanks a lot for identifying the emblem! I haven't seen this one before. I'll update the page at battlegroundrelics accordingly. Cheers, Roger |

Re: Do 17 emblem "Götz von Gerlichingen"
This photo (that was sold on eBay a few days ago) shows Bulgarian airmen in front of the aircraft.
It would be interesting to know where and when did the paths of this particular aircraft of 6./KG 2 and the Bulgarian airmen crossed. Perhaps in the few days in mid-April 1941, when it was based in Skopje and Plovdiv? Or, perhaps during a training session in Germany?
