Re: P-38 # 42-67647

Good evening Alain !

Tricky thing. On September 3rd, 1944, the MACR's day-by-day register has 3 P-38 in the list. One in Burma, one in India and the one in question.

The MACR of the one in question gives as location of the belly-landing "8 Miles East of Malines, Belgium at 12:30 hrs.

But there is also one "Lightning" entry in the KU/J-report register for this day:
"3 Sept. 44 1330 Lightning 4 km N. Viernheim, 11 km NE. Mannheim
J 2077"

Here, the question is, what LGK-report # J 2077 can tell us. It is not added to MACR # 9113.

All the best !

Re: P-38 # 42-67647

Alain,

The NARA POW record of Alfred W. Mills (O-755991) unfortunately doesn't say where he was captured by the Germans other than "European Theatre".
Mills was held at Stalag Luft 3 and later at Nürnberg.

Groet,

Leendert
