Fw 190 G-3, WNr. 160896

Hello,

About 1-2 years ago I asked about a particular Fw 190 G-3: W.Nr. 160896. At that time nobody had any information. Only W.Nr. close to that one were reported as damaged/destroyed in Italy during 1944.

The reason I was asking is that I owned the control stick of that plane (with the serial number painted onto the stick).

As the stick was removed from a Fw 190 by a US GI, I assume it was found more or less intact at the end of the war. Maybe some new information based on photos showed up in the meantime? I would be very glad to know more about this Fw 190.

Regards,
Roger

Hello Roger,

your Fw 190 is mentioned in two short Ultra-reports from summer and fall 1944:

HW 5/651
Note dated 11.08.1944, arrived at Ergänzungsstaffel I./SKG 10, location not reported

HW 5/604
Note dated 14.10.1944, being transfered away or lost ("Abgang") at Schulstaffel III./KG 51 at Vörden.

Perhaps Nick Beale has more on this.

HTH

I may have (but I may not have read it all yet). Certainly, there are quite a lot of messages about from Autumn 1944 the Erg. Staffel.

Re: Fw 190 G-3, WNr. 160896

Hello Charles, Nick and Rémi,

Thank you very much for this exciting information. It's very nice to know part of the story behind the control stick. Usually, such parts cannot be related to a certain W.Nr. and their story is lost.

I hope more information about this Fw 190 will be found in the future from Ultra-reports or even from photographs.

Best regards,
Roger

I know that Bletchley was intercepting Police and Reichsbahn material but I've never looked into it. Equally there are the naval reports (including all the U-boat signals that are the focus of most books on Enigma) which again I have not explored.

The first mention that I've found:

160896 was reported as taken on to the strength of Erg. St. SKG 10 at Voerden on 11 August 1944 (Ultra CX/MSS/R.276(C), paragraph 124)
