Attack on Norwegian submarine chaser "Hessa" October 2, 1944.

On a patrol on October 2, 1944, the Norwegian submarine chaser "Hessa" was attacked by a Canadian aircraft in pos. 60 degrees 05 mins. North, and 03 degrees 05 mins. East. The aircraft dropped six 250 lb Torpex Mk. XI mines, inflicting severe damage to the ship.
Can anyone identify the aircraft involved.

Re: Attack on Norwegian submarine chaser "Hessa" October 2, 1944.

You can allready rule out 423 Sqn RCAF, its Sunderland flew more west (over the Atlantic) and reported no attack this day (source: ORB From 541).

404 Sqn RCAF also didn't report any attacks but lost two aircraft and crew this day in a collision (source: http://www.404squadron.com/Oct1944.html)

In this area 407 and 422 Sqn RCAF were also present with Coastal Command.

I guess you know already that "Hessa" was used for the Shetland Bus between Norway and the Shetlands.

Thank you Brian, that is really very nice of you.
I think that the best source would be the ORB appendices for
October 1944 for No. 18 Group Coastal Command. This is to be found
in AIR 25/444.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
