2. and 3./JG52 02Jun43

Does any one have the first names of Uffz. Manz 3./JG52 and Uffz Gaepfuss 2./JG52 (First names are not in "Kracker")? I checked Tony Woods list and found only 4 Pe-2 listed as shot down between 13:00-13:45. Are there more listed in the German versions of the JG52 histories for the 2. and 3. this date?

Hello Mokose

Fast includes an entry on 9 July 1943 for a Feldwebel Werner Manz of 3./JG 52:

9 July 1943: Feldwebel Werner Manz of 3./JG 52 missing in Bf 109 G-6 "Yellow 3" (W.Nr. 19 986) following aerial combat southwest of Prochorowka, 140 kilometres north-northeast of Charkow, 100%

Nothing for Gäpfuss but hopefully someone else can add the relevant information. I hope this helps.

Horrido!

Leo

Nokose,

I believe this could be another one of the names in the Tony Woods files that were mis-read from the hand-written files on the microfilms. I believe this could be Friedrich Göpfert who was a member of 2/JG52 at around that time and went missing 27 July 1943. I haven't been able to find any Gäpfuss in JG 52.

Regards,

Craig...

According to Niko Fast's "Das Jagdgeschwader 52, Band IV", it was Gefr. Friedrich Göpfer of 2./JG 52 who went missing in Bf 109G-6 WNr. 15639 on that date.

Leo, Craig & Leon, Thank You! I now know that Manz's first name is Werner. The first name of the other pilot is Fredrich but which now is the last name Goefer or Goefert? Still looking to find out if any other Pe-2s were shot down during that time. A female Soviet pilot was shot down by one of them and WIA but recieved a HSU for the mission.
