Exclamation B-17 44-6308 91BG-322BS

Hello ,
In the book " Heavy Bombers of the Mighty Eight " by Paul M Andrews and William H Adams 1995 i found the following abbreviations on B-17 serialnumber 44-6308 :

BOWO 208,209 - NASA 57894AC,62748AC - VALA 51

Can someone tells me what this means ?

Re: B-17 44-6308 91BG-322BS

Alain57:
If you go to pages 415 to 421, you will find a listing/references as to what these "expressions" refer to, for instance, BOWO208 indicates it contains information in Ray Bowdons book "Plane Names and Fancy Noses", on pages 208/209.
Hope this helps..

Re: B-17 44-6308 91BG-322BS

NASA 57894AC,62748AC should actually be NARA(National Archives & Records Administration).
NARA 57984AC & 62748AC are the photograph locator numbers for the Air Force collection of pictures.

If you go to FootNote.com and do a search for 57894AC & 62748AC you will see the pics.

Regards,

Re: B-17 44-6308 91BG-322BS

In the original posting, NASA is the correct reference for a book printed in 1995. NARA did not become the new name until later. although, as you say, searching today on NARA gives a result...
The reference for the National Archives in Andrews & Adams is noted as "NAA" (Primary Sources, P415)
