Thumbs up 272 Squadron Beaufighters

During the Summer of 1944 the 272 Squadron Beaufighters Mk.X were involved on operations around the Mediterranean.
I never saw any picture of them and I wonder about their camouflage pattern.
Is there any information about it?

Regards

Thanks in advance

Ruy

Re: 272 Squadron Beaufighters

Hi Ruy,

This site has an illustration of a 272 Sqn Beaufighter Mk X:

Are you making a model?

Cheers,

Bruce

Re: 272 Squadron Beaufighters

Thanks a lot Bruce what a fantastic work ! Many hours around the PC I guess, it could turn a book by adding some pics.

You are right I intend to build a model in particular one of the aircraft Beau Mk.X that sunk the italian liner Rex (pride of Mussolini).

Best Regards

Re: 272 Squadron Beaufighters

The artwork is clearly generic, as is common on this site. Coastal Command Beaufighters would normally be in Temperate Sea Scheme, Extra Dark Sea Grey and Dark Slate Grey uppersurfaces with Sky undersides - in the Mediterranean this might well be Azure Blue. Colour photos exist of earlier versions in this scheme, based on Malta.

I have not been able to find a photo of a Beaufighter Mk.X specifically labelled as 272 Sq, but the majority of the ones I did find show no contrast on the dark uppersurfaces so will be in TSS rather than Desert (which will always show some contrast). Some of the photos are more ambiguous. TSS is often a difficult scheme to identify because in some views it has little to no contrast whereas in others it has considerable. This is due to variations in film type, filters, and probably wear.
