Re: Information sought on 2./Ku.Fl.Gr 906 .
According to Holm, 2 Staffel did not come to France until 1941 but 1 Staffel was in Brest and 3 Staffel in Cherbourg???

Re: Information sought on 2./Ku.Fl.Gr 906 .
Thanks for that information Chris . On November 25 , 1940 a BV 138A-1 ( 8L+CK, werks nr. 0381 ) landed off the south west coast of Co.Kerry , Ireland . The plane later sunk and the five crew members were interned in Ireland . I thought this plane came from 2 Staffel , I guess I was wrong . Anymore thoughts on this ???

Re: Information sought on 2./Ku.Fl.Gr 906 .
Hello again,
see the old thread on this forum where Tony K mentioned about the codes on this aircraft not being present. Why have I always thought they were flying from Norway?

Re: Information sought on 2./Ku.Fl.Gr 906 .
Hi.
Why should there be a problem that an aircraft stationed at Hörnum on the Frisian Island of Sylt reached Ireland? They might have flown via Norway or France for refuelling for all we know. The max range of a BV 138 was close to 4300 kilometers. The war diary of the General der Luftwaffe beim Oberbefehlshaber der Marine states that this aircraft was a 2. Staffel aircraft, and that it was destroyed by the crew after an emergency landing. The loss record as follow by GenQu 6 Abt is in line with the loss as it is written up in the war diary: http://www.aviationhistory.no/ref_db...?lossid=115056 Regards, Andreas B

Re: Information sought on 2./Ku.Fl.Gr 906 .
Hi Andreas , thanks for your imput . I have checked my files on this loss and in it the pilot of the BV138 Uffz. Willi Krupp claims they flew from Breast but as previously stated 2 Staffel were not in France at that time , a bit of a mystery here !

Re: Information sought on 2./Ku.Fl.Gr 906 .
Hi,
this squadron operated under K.Fl.Gr.406 from Brest. This flyingboat was involved together with 2 other crews in an afternoon reconnaissance mission for BdU. Loss was atributed to an engine failure - many problems were experienced with Jumo 205C engines at this time. Schnellmeyer do you have an interrogation report of this crew? Regards Robert |

Re: Information sought on 2./Ku.Fl.Gr 906 .
Hi.
The Staffel was stationed at Hörnum, but my point was that they could easily have been flying from a multitude of stations along both the German, French and Norwegian coastline, in addition to the coast of Belgium and the Netherlands. That they started in Brest on this day is of course totally possible. This should in fact be in the operational maps, I will check when I am in Freiburg next time. Regards, Andreas B

Re: Information sought on 2./Ku.Fl.Gr 906 .
Hi Robert , I have an account of the events which I got from the pilot Willi Krupp many years ago . This mainly deals with what happened to the crew after they abandoned their aircraft . I would be very interested to learn more about the other two aircraft who may also have been involved in this patrol .
Andreas , yes you are right about the Staffel being based at Hornum and it is possible that the plane may mave been flown to Breast on a previous patrol . If you get any new information when you visit Freiburg please let me know , thanks. |

Re: Information sought on 2./Ku.Fl.Gr 906 .
Hi,
the squadron was transferred to Brest already on 10.11.40 and placed under command of K.Fl.Gr.406 (Marinegruppe West). The first mission had been flown by two Bv 138 flyingboats on the next day. @Schnellmeyer: I will send you more via PM during the course of couple days. Regards Robert |
