Flyingkag is on a distinguished road
44-14036 and the 382nd FS

Hi all,

I would be very interested about the 44-14036 Mustang in july or august 1944. That plane, a P51D, was affected on an operational unit of the 8th AF on july 7th 1944; it probably arrived directly from the States to the 382nd FS, and get a squadron "C3" lettering there.

Later (after september 1944) it was flying in the 162nd TRS as that squadron was created as replacing the old one 382nd FS.

Possible code could have been C3-Y, but not sure.

That plane crashed on november 25th 1944 with Lt leo skenyon as pilot.

Could someone help?

I would be very intersted about

- a possible picture showing a C3-Y, or 44-14036 if exists one of it (?)

- which ones planes from the 382nd were transferd to the new created 162nd TRS, and

- which ones pilots from teh 382nd FS stayed in that new 162nd TRS (others were sent to others fighter squadron and didn't fly in teh recce squadron). Fighter pilots were probably better on airfights that making photos or observations, that's another job!

Thanks for any possible help,

Mathias
