Crashing place of Hptm. Horst-Günther von Fassong III./JG 11
Gentlemen,
Accorting to my knowledge, Hptm. von Fassong was shot down during the Bodenplatte by P-47's of the 366th FG 390th FS, north of Maastricht (near Opglabbeek?). Was his body found nowadays or he is still in missing status? |

Re: Crashing place of Hptm. Horst-Günther von Fassong III./JG 11
According to John Manrho's book on Bodenplatte published in 2004, Hptm. von Fassong crashed near Opglabbeek and is still listed as MIA.
Best wishes Robert |

Re: Crashing place of Hptm. Horst-Günther von Fassong III./JG 11
His grave was never identified. From the Asch area some 5-6 dead pilots of 1.1.45 were transferred to US Cemetery Margarten and later in 1946/1947 reinterred at Ysselsteyn. Unfortunately the information on these remains are not sufficient to indicate any identification.
regards, John. |

Re: Crashing place of Hptm. Horst-Günther von Fassong III./JG 11
Hello john,
If I remember correctly a relative of a US soldier asked questions on the old board about papers that were found on a dead luftwaffe pilot that was shot down on 1.1.45. Though this person only got them from a family member and did not remove it from the body himself he was aggressively reprimanded on this board. I believe there was a name of the Luftwaffe pilot but I don't remember it. Did you ever got in contact with him/her? Or was his first post the only message ever received? Dennis |

Dennis,
I am not sure what posting you mean....can't remember. It might be that I have been contacted, not sure. Maybe Ruy knows a way to search for posts of the old 12 oçlock high/ Can't remember a reprimand though in conjunction with a question regarding 1.1.45. cheers, John. |
