RAF Squadrons histories.
I'm not sure whether this is a good place for such topic but decided to put it here.
I'm wondering why there's so few books about RAF squadrons available on the market. Last weekend I started searching on the Net and what I found wasn't very encouraging for someone who want to read about them. OK, so what I found is (ok, I was only looking for fighter squadrons): 1. 91 "Nigeria" squadron - Osprey 2. 43 "Fighting Cocks" squadron - Osprey 3. Blood, sweat and valour - 41 Squadron - Fonthill Media 4. Swift to battle - Pen and sword 5. In all things first - ditto 6. Fighting Cocks - ditto Of course there are some older secondhand titles yet they are sometimes very expensive. Maybe together we could create some kind of database here for people who look for such books. |

Hi Dominik
Arguably one of the best is 249 AT WAR! Cheers Brian |

Brian
I know this book, and it's the one we can get aftermarket (btw, are you planning to write another squadron history similar to '249 at War'. The same we can say about 'The Greatest squadron of Them All". Oh, and yesterday I found in my collection the book called 'Lions Rampant: the Story of 602 Spitfire squadron'. To the list we can add two books about Polish squadrons with RAF, both published by MMP/Stratus - Nos 304 and 315 squadrons. |

Re: RAF Squadrons histories.
You can add the (relatively) recently published "Dragon Rampant" - 234 Sqn - by Nigel Walpole.

Re: RAF Squadrons histories.
There is a book-list on BRITISH AVIATION ARCHAEOLOGICAL COUNCIL with books connected to RAF squadrons.

Re: RAF Squadrons histories.
Finally I have some time to read the forum.
Peter great thanks for posting this link. I found this once but then lost it for several months. I'll have to print it. Bertrand, this book looks nice, but I don't think my French is good enough to read it. Yet I add it to my list. |

Re: RAF Squadrons histories.
"Gentlemen In Blue" by Hans Onderwater, about No. 600 Squadron.
"From Dusk Till Dawn" by T.W. Kitching, about No. 219 Squadron I think you'll find a few more in Osprey Publishing's "Elites" series. |
