B-24 with Soviet Nose Art
Seeking any info leading to the idea behind this nose art in Russian of the 392nd BG . On port side is the communist slogan "Tovarish " shown while on starboard AKA "PICCADILLY COMMANDO". 392th BG didn't participate on the shuttle bombings from Russia and to my knowledge neither brought any VIP's to Russia . The enlisted airman and the designer standing near the noseart M/Sgt Stephen Dergo had anything but Russian roots.
Was wondering what were the motives behind this gesture when in fact the US and Soviet relationships were kind of strained especially prior and the Poltawa events on June 21, '44 and not as great as published on papers, adding to this various incidents when US airmen were detained in Russia and kept as POW's long after war's end . Re: B-24 with Soviet Nose Art
Researcher,
According this website http://www.militaryphotos.net/forums...-Collaboration Sgt Dergo did have Russian roots....? Also look here http://www.b24.net/aircraft/disposit.htm under 41-51128 where Dergo's Russian ancestry is mentioned. Regards, Leendert |

Re: B-24 with Soviet Nose Art
Serial is obviously wrong: probably 42-51128, B-24H-25-DT, not 41-51128.

Re: B-24 with Soviet Nose Art
Thank you , though when I wrote this msg I was aware about various hinds indicating about Dergo roots but I am no sure about it, coze the Red Star and Tovarish has nohing to do with roots but political ideology, but who knows. By the way the website on Ops Frantic contains numerous errors and I won't use it as Bible, such the shot described as taken with Ambs.Harriman after Romania......the comment is not correct.
Gabour , yes agreed about your remarks . |

Re: B-24 with Soviet Nose Art
This pic of 42-51128 seems to show a Russian Kossack on a horse on the starboard side.
