No.333 Squadron RAF

How long was No.333 Squadron RAF based at Sumburgh? Was it a detachment or the whole squadron?

TIA,

Stephen

Re: No.333 Squadron RAF

Air Britain records suggest the Squadron's B Flight was at Leuchars and its A Flight was at Woodhaven from May 1943 to June 1945 but no mention of Sumburgh.

That's interesting, because the Squadron ORB states otherwise.

As Larry says, though the B Flight eventually moved to Banff to become part of the Banff Strike Wing. It might have been short deployments by B Flight to at Sumburgh, but the squadron was never based there.

If you are interested in 333Sqn then you really should purchase this very good book http://proinor.no/flyhistorie-profil...nr-6-mosquito/

In there it states that in the early phase when 333Sqn operated from Leuchars they used Wick and Sumburgh as a forward base for operations along the Norwegian coast.
