Remi
Could you make it easier by telling us what was their fates? Presumably they were on He 177s? Chris Last edited by Chris Goss; 9th September 2013 at 18:42. |

Re: 4.KG40
Hi Remi, sorry But I do not have the crew details, this is what I have for 4/KG40 on the 13/14th June 1944. ADIK report for F8+IM (one Pow) says 4/5 aircraft of 4/KG40 started from Toulouse at 2300hrs on the 13th. to bomb shipping offshore north of Carentan. From what I can make out they lost three aircraft 550080 Crew of Ltn. Reichmuller crew all missing, 550146 F8+IM crew of Oblt Meissner crew five missing one Pow, and 550098 with Bs Uffz.Alois Willfahrt no.53499/32 and Bs Uffz.Franz Schmidt no.60025/83 both missing. The first two Heinkels are shown as shot down unknown cause while 550098 is shown as cause enemy nightfighter. The RAF combat reports I have (4) give crash locations as 23/25miles N 0f Le Harve at 0145hrs, 40miles NNE of F.C.T.216 at 0208hrs, 17 miles ENE of Barfleur at 0208hrs, and off Fecamp at 0215hrs ( 'K' position for Meissner is off Carentan at 0200hrs ). It looks like the other four crewmen from 550098 made it back. If there is any other info. that might name the pilots of the 4/5 crews of 4/KG40 on that nights mission it might narrow your search down, hopefully there might be something out there,

Re: 4.KG40
I concur with Brian. Like another He 177 lost during this time with only one casualty, the only way of finding the rest of the crew was by chance when I interviewed 2 of them about when then were shot down & wounded a few weeks later

Re: 4.KG40
Hi Brian!
Do you know the survivors of the crew of the He 177 in the 2 gunners are reported missing? One of them, Willfahrt Alois is my great uncle! Greetings Wilding, Karl-Heinz |
