Mitchell II FW211 VO-Y 98 Sqn crash Hees Nijmegen 25Sept1944

Hi!
Keen to get a positive ID on the exact crash location of this plane. We have a lead (including a contemporaneous report), but it doesn't provide many details of the plane. Also a competing theory regarding this location (that a Spitfire crashed there, possibly on 20Sept1944) needs ruling out. Especially interested in original documents or eyewitness accounts.
Thanks!

Re: Mitchell II FW211 VO-Y 98 Sqn crash Hees Nijmegen 25Sept1944

Hello there!

Here's a blog I made yesterday…

http://hewasahero.wordpress.com/

Looking for:
1) Ideally, cast iron proof of the probable crash site at 148-150 Dorpsstraat Hees.
2) If that's simply not happening, then a firm disproof of a contending theory regarding a Spitfire crashing at that same location, possibly on 20Sep1944.

Mainly interested in original documents, photos, eyewitness accounts and film footage.

Any help gratefully received.
Thanks!

We're in the 6 September edition of 'De Gelderlander', the paper for the Nijmegen area. The original article and an imperfect English translation are both here on my blog…

and for more details of the ceremony please see the organiser's site…

Will be going to the Netherlands for this one, in yesterday's Nijmegen paper 'De Brug'…

The organiser and 320 Squadron specialist did a marvellous job with the timings at the ceremony, and several photographers wanted to provide us with their work. There were newspaper articles both before and after the event, as well as a TV spot…
