				Re: two crashes
5./ZG1 Messerschmitt Bf110C-1. Suffered engine failure shortly after take-off for return flight to Lachen-Speyerdorf following earlier sortie from forward airfield at Freiburg and crash-landed near Haslach 10.29 a.m. FF Oberlt Günther Schmidt (Staffelkapitän) and BF Uffz Arthur Lotz both injured - admitted to hospital in Donaueschingen, Uffz Erich Bierwirth unhurt. Aircraft 2N+BN 100% write-off. The Flugbuch of ground-crewman Erich Bierwirth records that this aircraft regularly carried a crew of three on non-operational flights. |

				Re: two crashes
Hi Peter, just come across this post whilst searching for info on Bierwirth. I am a little confused as to why a ground- crewman such as Bierwirth would be issued with a flugbuch, would this be normal practise? Although the pilot and bordfunker were injured, Bierwirth escaped without injury and didn't fly again until 27th September 1940, incidently again with Gunther Schmidt, presumably after his recuperation from his injuries on 11.6.40. Best regs, Steve. |
