Re: WOLFGANG ZIESE need info

Hi Max,

I have Ltn. Wolfgang Ziese "der Baumiestere Hecht beim Versuchesverband OKL Oranienburg" making the following flights described as "einsatz", all in Arado Ar 234 B-1 WNr. 140153 T9+HH (SM+FM), in October and November 1944:

13.10 14.23 - 16.24 Uhr
18.10 9.07 - 11.08 Uhr
25.10 12.05 - 13.58 Uhr
30.10 10.05 - 12.20 Uhr
4.11 9.56 - 10.55 Uhr

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DFS_346

The above source has Ziese testing the DFS 346 in Russia and still alive in 1951.

deZeng and Stankey have no date of birth and make the cryptic comment that he died under "mysterious circumstances".

best regards,

Jim Geens

Re: WOLFGANG ZIESE need info

It is possible to follow Ziese up to his final flight with the Siebel (DFS) 346-3 on Sept 14th, 1951 when he had an accident and the aircraft destroyed.
According to Yefim Gordon, Ziese saved himself with a parachute so that was not the reason for his death.
Since I believe the programme was terminated with the loss of that aircraft his death must be for other reasons.

There is a photograph of Ziese in Gordon's book stated to be from the early 1950s. Ziese looks quite old and worn, but generally people in those days did look older than their real age and I can fully understand if he looked a bit worn as well. Flying the 346 was something I can say I am happy I didn't have to do.
Test pilots in those days were also preferred to be older than standard when experience was more important than anything else. A guess is he might be between 45 - 50 years old when the photo was taken.

Cheers
Stig

Re: WOLFGANG ZIESE need info

Hi Max,

I have some information about Ziese. He was born not far from my home. And he did not die in an accident and not under mysterious circumstances.

Why you need the information? If you can prove serious interest, write me a PM.

Peter
