Mustang FX926 - RAF 65 Squadron - missing 3 Sep 1944

Mustang FX926 of 65 Squadron went missing after a sweep to the Bruges area on 3 Sept 1944.
Pilot reportedly named A. Williams.

I presume the Mustang went down in the North Sea/Channel? Also, I found no entry for (a) Williams and 65 Squadron around that date on CWGC, so pilot was rescued by ASR?

Thanks for any info;

Regards,

Leendert

Re: Mustang FX926 - RAF 65 Squadron - missing 3 Sep 1944

Hello,

No.65 Squadron was still a component of the 2nd TAF.

The 3rd (September, 1944), brought 2nd TAF losses to two Spitfire IXs, a Mustang I of 430 Squadron, a Mark II of 2 Squadron, and a Mk III of 65 Squadron - all to flak or technical problems.

Time: 19:45
Sqn.: 65
Type: Mustang III
Ident: FX926
Pilot/Crew: F/O A Williams (Evaded and safe).
Cause/Locattion: FTR Givet-Bruges-St Omer.

Thanks Col. I should have checked my own 2 TAF volumes, it seems...

If pilot Williams evaded, then interesting to find out where he came down, given the area (SW Belgium, NW France) his mission went to.

Leendert

Hi ,

The orb of 65 Squadron mentions only that he went missing.

The 2th TAF Daily log mentions : hit by flak, believed forced landed safely St.Pol area.

Best regards

Luc
