B-17 shot down 8 Feb 1942 Java
Hi guys
On 8 February 1942, a B-17 flown by Capt John 'Duke' DuFrane of the 19th BG was shot down by Tainan Ku A6Ms (Zeros). All crew were killed bar one, who was found alive on Kangean Island having baled out. Questions: Who was the survivor? Possibly Pfc Harry Parry? What was the serial number of the B-17? I can't seem to pin it down! MACR 16154 apparently relates to the action. Has anyone a copy, please? Cheers Brian |

Re: B-17 shot down 8 Feb 1942 Java
Brian,
Several websites point to B-17 41-2456 as Capt DuFrane's airplane that day. Also in online book "7th Bombardment Group/Wing 1918-1995". Regards, Leendert |

Re: B-17 shot down 8 Feb 1942 Java
MACR 16154 can be seen or downloaded from here:
https://catalog.archives.gov/id/91172944 The after-the-fact MACR lists 7 crew members. There does not seem to be a MACR for Prichard's plane 41-2492 which was also lost that day. From the Fortlog, found here: http://www.91stbombardmentgroup.com/...ID/FORTLOG.pdf "41-2492" "Del McDill 4/1/42; Ass 19BG Java 5/2/42 w/Bill Pritchard; trans 9BS/7BG; s/d at sea near Malang, Java, and blew up w/Bill Prichard, W. Morgan, Isadore Alfred, F. Luscombe, R. Legault, Joe Hines, Ignatius Barron, Horace Salmon 8/2/43." (Note, date should be 8/2/42). As mentioned by Leendert, the book, "7th Bombardment Group/Wing 1918-1995" has a some info on this incident. https://books.google.com/books?id=Of...0Parry&f=false It does list a Harry "E" Parry as the 8th crew member on DuFrane's plane.
