Regia Aeronautica aircraft lost during operation compass

In his book "the right of the line" the author John Terraine says that no fewer than 1100 italian damaged aircraft were captured during operation Compass at the end of 1940.

Can you confirm this huge number ?

Thank you very much

Alain
