P-51D with underwing ramjets
Hi guys
I have seen a photograph of a P-51D fitted with two pulse-jets/ramjets, one below each wing. Did this aircraft ever fly? If so, when and with what result? Cheers Brian |

Re: P-51D with underwing ramjets
Brian - Could these be " Bazooka Tubes " used by P - 51s in Pacific ?

Re: P-51D with underwing ramjets
These pulse jets look very much like the pulse-jets used in testing the Me 328. Apparently the Germans were unable to keep the pulsing of the jets in sync and, as a result, the mismatched pulses of the jets just about tore the a/c apart.

Re: P-51D with underwing ramjets
Hi guys
I have since been informed that the P-51D flew in 1948 but crashed when one ramjet flamed out. The pilot escaped. Cheers Brian |
