I am not familiar with the makeup of German Ost-Abteilungen, but two Heimdal books about D-Day at Normandy (published in 1983 and 1997) have photos of Ost troops, who look similar to the troops shown on the cited website. Author Georges Bernage states that, while the soldiers appear to be "Asian", they were "Turkmenes" and were Muslim; one photo shows a group of the soldiers kneeling while being led in prayer. Their shoulder patch clearly shows a white mosque on a dark background.
