24 July 1940
Hi guys
A Fleet Air Arm pilot, Midshipman (A) Charles Mortimer, was killed in an air crash on 24 July 1940 while flying from Lee-on-Solent (HMS Daedalus). Can anyone tell me the aircraft he was flying and the circumstances of his crash, please? Cheers Brian

Hi Brian
Mortimer was flying Battle L.4582 from 12 OTU ( Benson) and hit a HT cable about 4 m from the airfield , he crashed near North Stoke near Oxford. source- R Sturtivant FAA Aircraft 1939 - 45 Bruce

Plse be advised that the correct Oxford serial was L5482 (in lieu of L4582). Regards, Henk.
