Africa - 18th April 1943
Hi,
On 18th April 1943 morning (start - 9.35 AM) five Spitfires of 145 Squadron protected 12 Spitfires of 417 Squadron which patroled over Cap Bon - Tunis area. Near Grembala they saw two Me 109s flying on 16,000 feets and one Spitfire of 145 Squadron was shot down (F/O Wyszkowski - POW). I'm looking for information who shot this pilot down. I,m not sure but maybe it was Oblt. Schiess (JG 53)? Best regards, Greg |

Re: Africa - 18th April 1943
There were several claims this day, but over the Cap Bon region there was only two (that I am aware of). Both were made by pilots of 7./JG 53.
The first was a claim for a Kittyhawk filed by Lt Walter Hicke, the second was for a Spitfire and was made by Uffz Georg Amon. The pitfal is that these claims were filed for combat that occurred around 1900hours. Hope this is a start for you |
