Information on pilot lost over England - Georg Wolff
Hi,
Can anyone provide information on the loss or capture of pilot Georg Wolff who was shot down over England and captured. I think the inscription might say n October? Many thanks Rick Last edited by rickback4444; 1st June 2017 at 09:32. |

Re: Information on pilot lost over England - Georg Wolff
The last 'word' on the first line is not 'Oct' but 'ab' and is part of the first word on the next line, 'geschossen' = 'abgeschossen'.
If no more is known, it may be a wide net to cast to find when he was shot down.

Re: Information on pilot lost over England - Georg Wolff
There was a Franz Georg Wolff pilot of 8/KG30 shot down and taken prisoner on 20-8-1940 . If the first word is Schorse which came out as shrouds on Google Translate some sort of nickname ?

Re: Information on pilot lost over England - Georg Wolff
Schorse is short form from Georg (from french "George").
"Schorse Wolf, ab-geschossen über England. In Gefangenschaft" Not a clean Sütterlin, a mixture between Kurrentschrift and Normschrift. Occurred oftenly in the generation between 1939 and 1945. Regards RolandF Last edited by RolandF; 21st February 2017 at 08:44. |

Re: Information on pilot lost over England - Georg Wolff
Hi,
With date provided by Brian I went to Luftwaffe Crash a archive volume 2 to see what additional information I might find. Some nice photographs of aircraft wreckage and crew information. Only other survivor of crash was Fw. Hugo Keller - I think that helps confirm Uffz. Franz Georg Wolff's identity as it looks like Keller has signed portrait to the right. Thanks for help Rick |

Re: Information on pilot lost over England - Georg Wolff
Still not convinced-why would someone else sign a photo of a member of his crew & to whom? Definitely H but not convinced it is the name you say it is. Is it Wolfe or Wolff? Too much supposition for me
