44-14490 F/O Paul Sitzer 357th FG

Hello,

Jan. 02, 1945 F/O Paul Sitzer was shot down with his P-51. Where is the exact crashplace? What was the destination/mission this day?

I have informations that he fly in the Wetzlar-Giessen area.

Kind regards.

Join Footnote and you'll be able to lookup the MACR yourself.

Re: 44-14490 F/O Paul Sitzer 357th FG

Gentlemen,

I'm not shure, but if I compare MACR 11521 (1/Lt. A.J. Sencal, 4.FG, 43-6587, KIA) and MACR 11527 (Sizer) I found the following: In J-2810 (MACR 11521) the name of the pilot is given with A.J. Sencal, but the Serial "41449" belongs to Sizers a/c (44-14490). J-2776 (same MACR) mentions the crash of a P-51 in Mittelbrunn near Landstuhl, "Disposition of pilot unknown". 358. and 371.FG lost at least four P-47 in this area, a second mix-up?

Further of interest: Flak of Art.Abt.(mot.) 836 claimed two a/c on this day, both near Niederahr (one "Mustang" and one "P-47", with details about both crashplaces). The pilot of the "P-47" was able to bail out, the other one was found dead in or near the wreckage.

The mix-up of Sencals name with Sizers a/c and the report of this German Flak unit leads to the conclusion that both a/c were shot down in the same area...

Comments, please...

Best regards,

A.Heuser
