KG-200 loss, 12/28/1944

Hi,
On the 28th of décember 1944, 417th NFS claimed the destruction of a german four engine plane presumed to be a Ju-290 supposed belonging to the KG 200
Did KG 200 reported the loss of a plane on 12/28/1944 ?

Thank for your help.

Guy

Re: KG-200 loss, 12/28/1944

Nope. But Kommando "Olga" of I./KG 200 was operating Ju 290s, Ju 188s and captured B-17s from Stuttgart-Echterdingen, Frankfurt - Rhein-Main and Hildesheim from Oct 44 thru Mar 45 to drop agents and supplies for agents over the West (mainly France). But there is no known Ju 290 loss on or near the date you specified.

L.

P.S. Have you checked the following, since the vier-mot. might have been from a unit other than KG 200?

Kössler, Karl and Günther Ott, Die großen Dessauer: Junkers Ju 89, Ju 90, Ju 290, Ju 390 – Die Geschichte einer Flugzeugfamilie (Berlin, 1993).

From memory this was actually a Lufthansa Fw 200 rather than a Ju 290, but I could be wrong about that.

Thanks to you two.
Conclusion , It was certainly not a bird of th KG 200 and probably not a Ju-290.
The Transportstaffel Condor used FW-200 in December of 1944. But this unit opertated from Gardermoen. It is a very long way from Oslo to Barcelona...

It wasn't among the casualty reports from 4./KG 200's Kommando «Carmen» (operating Ju 188s out of Bergamo). However, a Ju 188 suffered radar failure south of Toulon at 22.52 GMT on the 28th, an hour into its mission, and returned to base. Since this Ju 188 carried radar, it almost certainly belonged to 6.(F)/122.

Source: Air War Italy 1944–45 (and before that, IIRC, a No. 276 Wing RAF Signals Intelligence Report).

Re: KG-200 loss, 12/28/1944

A pretty complete report dealing with activities of DLH over routes to Spain in 1944 exist at Kew, for example a Fw200 was shot-down on 27.sept. a Ju290 suffered "wounds" from a NF on the 15.oct.

One must hv a look in depth at this report
