Hudson (AM698) of 224 Sqn, RAF

Hello

I have read that Hudson (AM698) of 224 Sqn, RAF was possibly shot down by Oberleutnant Erich Leie (121 victories, RK, killed in action 7 March 1945) of the Geschwaderstab of JG 2 on 8 January 1942 with all the crew being listed as missing. I would like to find out more on this aircraft, such as mark, tactical code and crew names if possible. I will say that there appears to be some confusion regarding this aircraft as some sources that I have seen mention that it was lost on 27 December 1942 with 500 Sqn, RAF in the Mediterranean theater. Could anyone shed some light on this matter? Many thanks for any help.

Horrido!

Leo

Re: Hudson (AM698) of 224 Sqn, RAF

Leo,

The CWGC gives 5 names with 224 Squadron on 8 Jan 1942 (I've used Geoff's search engine).
They are T.F. Burn, B.A. Mobberley, G.G. Noseley, E. Upton and G.C. Williams.

Regards,

Leendert

Re: Hudson (AM698) of 224 Sqn, RAF

AM520 to AM702 Hudsons Mk V standard range
AM703 to AM909 Hudsons Mk V extended range (extra wing tanks)
Not sure, but seems no 500 Sqdn lost 2 Hudsons on 27 Dec 42 :
AM638/M ditched, crew rescued by 2 Walrus X9561 & ?,
AM689/W crew lost.
