Re: Questions about 607 Sqdn Hurricane's
I would take the later and more detailed information in 12DIM above the earlier and more basic data in the Air Britain. You might also like to look at Blackadder's diary, as edited (with extra information) by Robert Dixon in "The Diary of a Hurricane Pilot in the Battle of France", published by Fonthill 2015. ISBN 978-1-78155-310-7. Sadly this book doesn't have an index, nor does Blackadder identify the aircraft by serial.
Fidler was shot down on the 19th, so there's no reason to doubt that Parrot could have been wounded in the same aircraft before then. I have P2621 as possibly 615 Sq, but can't say where that came from. However as possibly linked transcription errors I do have P2671 as AF.G, with this noted as in a blackout block, and also P2571 as G, often flown by Blackadder in May. I have nothing on P2830 other than its listing in Air Britain. |

Re: Questions about 607 Sqdn Hurricane's
Hello ,
Here some remarks : P-2620 Thompson crashed not near Gembloux but at Attenhoven , a hamlet of the town off Landen , 40 km to the east of Brussels. P-2621 Sullivan came dow near Perwez , 20 km south east off the town off Wavre also in Belgium. He still is buried at the cocal cemetery overthere. Regards Alain57 |

You seem not to have consulted Peter Cornwell's book BoF Then and Now. P2620 Check, but w/o 13.5.1940 (not 14/5) P2621 Sullivan had been assigned to 607 Sq and arrived the same day he was lost. Cornwell says aircraft from 607 Sq and pilot 242 Sq. P2797 According to Cornwell he was in P3535 which was slightly damaged. P2797 not listed in the index. P2830 Not listed in the index P2870 Check P2873 Check, added that aircraft was lost P2874 Check, added that aircraft was repaired and returned to unit. P3448 Check P3535 Check (13.5.1940), slight damage, repaired and returned. Differs (18.5.1940). Cornwell says aircraft badly damaged, poss by Stab I./JG 77 G.M. Fidler killed in the ensuing crash. I cannot say if the above compromises P3535 or not. The damage was slight on 18/5. Was it back and in service already on the 19th to be lost that day? According to Cornwell, yes. Cheers Stig PS: I have had no feedback yet on my answers to your Bristol Fighter queries |

Re: Questions about 607 Sqdn Hurricane's
Hello Stig,
You seem not to have consulted Peter Cornwell's book BoF Then and Now. Simple answer is because I do not have it and cannot get it via my local Library. To buy a copy - what is the price ? I expect way out of my pocket money range these days. As for the Bristol Fighter queries, have not read your reply as yet thanks though for the reply. Thank you also for your responce to this thread, the Cornwell refs are most welcome. Alex |

Re: Questions about 607 Sqdn Hurricane's
Hello,
So from the above list and clarification of each serial number of 607's Hurricane's leaves only one outstanding. P2830 - Lost in France 05/40. - what if anything else is known of this aircraft ? Alex |

P2830 is only listed as lost in France between 10 - 20.5.1940 with 607 Sq. Presumably it was an aircraft which may have been used for spare parts and either was burned or destroyed when the unit withdraw. P2697 is another one with a similar fate. Possibly one day you will have a wonderful shot of them on e-bay, who knows? Cheers Stig PS: With regard to my Bristol Fighter answers I was actually interested in the other one, since I am curious about your ref to Bolivia. PPS: The book The Battle of France Then and Now has ISBN 9-781870-067652 but perhaps by now it would be better to wait for Hickey/Cornwell et All's 'final' opus dealing with 1939-40? |
