Re: Auster NJ957 and Hurricane KX409

Jerry,

Both serials appear in an online log book of an unknown pilot.

Aston Down is mentioned a few times: 84 Ground Support Unit?
Auster and Hurricane perhaps used as liaison aircraft, but am no expert here.

Auster NJ957 found its way to Dutch Air Force and Navy after the war....

Regards,

Leendert

Re: Auster NJ957 and Hurricane KX409

Hi Leendert,
Yeah, I was looking at the info in the on-line logbook, ( some typhoon serials early on are wrongly typed ),
The auster doesn't seem to be '84 GSU', the pilot seems to have moved (to possibly '84 GSU ') about 2/3 weeks later.
Also some of the serials of aircraft ( in the possible '84 GSU time' ) are listed as being with other squadrons, and some are listed as being with 84 GSU after this time period, but not during it.
Hopefully I have explained why I am confused and thought I would try a post ...
cheers
Jerry

Hi John,
Sure, It is on a site about 193 Squadron, link :-
http://www.amnesta.net/other/logbook_JD_2.pdf

I have copies of about 4-5 logbooks of 193SQ pilots and was trying to match up a few more details / codes etc, every little bit helps.
The site also has details on the Rommel who did it 'attack / debate'.
Cheers

Thanks a lot.

It's the log book of Jim Darling. And the serials of the Hurricanes looks to me like 56 OTU a/c.

Yes, I forgot to write that I meant the Hurricanes on the first pages.

Two of the Spitfires he flew - MH434 and MH439 - was TOC at 84 GSU in June and left 350 Sq. in March. So where were they in between?
