He was later the commander of TBD Devastator unit VT-6 Sept 1939 on USS Enterprise (CV-6) and Captain of USS COWPENS (CV-25) during WW2 and ended up an Admiral Birth 10 May 1897 Lyon County, Kansas, USA Death 6 Oct 1979 Pinellas County, Florida, USA I know that a US Navy aircraft was lost 16 Jan 1930 San Diego, CA, but that is all and I can't find any contemporary news reports either. Re: First US Navy Parachute Incident in 1930
De Baun was practicing Immelman turns when he got into an inverted spin. The aircraft was F3B-1, A-7729, of VB-2B and it came down at Lower Otay Dam, San Diego.
