RAF claims for Do 215

Hello,

I wonder if anyone knows how many Do 215 were claimed by RAF pilots. What I'm looking for is how common it was to claim a Do 215 - irrespectively of if it actually was a Do 215 or not. Has anyone seen such "raw" statistics somewhere?

Best regards
/Mikael

Destroyed-probable-damaged? However, the common mistaking for a 215 for a 110 or 17 makes these figures purely a guide from which to work downwards

Re: RAF claims for Do 215

Thanks Chris,

Yes I know that these figures doesn't have anything to do with the actual results of the encounters - but my interest was not for what really happened but more what aircraft type the pilots perceived to have encountered in the battles. So I think these figures do serve the purpose I have in mind.

Re: RAF claims for Do 215

Rather amusingly, when Spitfires of 66 Sqn pursued a Do 215 across Rendlesham Forest on 31 August 1940 in a rare Sufolk Battle of Britain encounter, the Police identified the raider as a 'Dornier 17'!

Re: RAF claims for Do 215

Hello BC
As a dull Finn, I didn’t find anything amusing in that, the Police did a good work in identification, better than many fighter pilots, as Do 215 was an export version of Do 17Z, the only bigger difference being that the Bramo radials of the Do 17Z were replaced by DB 601Ba inline engines.
