Thumbs up B-17 crash near Velm Belgium

Uffz. Karl Schmitz from 6./JG 27 claimed a B-17 near Velm at 5.500 m. south-west off St. Trond in Belgium at 15.33 hrs on November 14 1943. Is this information correct ?

Re: B-17 crash near Velm Belgium

Alain,

Are you referring to your earlier post (of 18-10-2007) in which you mentioned 14 Oct 1943 as the date of Schmitz's claim? In this post you talk about 14 Nov 1943....

Answers then were a possibe 42-30813 (Neeroeteren), 42-29771 (Hasselt) or 42-3216 (Dilsen).

Of course place of claim may not necessarily coincide with ultimate location of victim's crash.

Groet,

Leendert

Thumbs up Re: B-17 crash near Velm Belgium

Leenderdt,

Sorry your right about the date , i think this claim in the neightbourhood of St-Truiden is completly wrong , must be one of the three you mentioned.

Re: B-17 crash near Velm Belgium

Alain and Leendert,
According "Losses of the US 8th and 9th Air Forces" by Bishop and Hey
42-30813 crashed near Dorne, 15 mi SE Hasselt,
No crash of 42-29771, maybe 42-29971 near Beek near Maastricht?
42-3216 crashed at 16.00hrs near Rambluzin, 11 mi S Verdun.
