Dont Shoot the Messenger

Hello,

There seems to be times when for whatever reason people when asking a question on the forum and have been replied too. Then take great issue with the responder for supplying wrong or incorrect information.

They seem to forget that the responder has taken the time to firstly check what he or she has to hand on the subject of the question asked and has then also taken the time to respond.

They should politely request of the responder the source of the information given and then go and question that source.

Don't Shoot the Messenger

Thats all I have to say.

Re: Dont Shoot the Messenger

Alex,

Perhaps it may be prudent to quote reference material in the first place rather than expect responders to ask for the origin? I believe this is only fair to the spirit of intellectual copyright and the person who put it together.

Re: Dont Shoot the Messenger

Prudent, maybe, but certainly not a given.

As long as people are volunteering information, its logical that you return that effort with some level of respect.

Of course we all welcome the most in depth answers, we can at least try to provide them ourselves, but we can't demand them, nor even expect them.

I've noticed that the level of answers is often dictated by type of question. Short questions seem to generate short answers.

Questions with an in depth introduction and signs of preliminary research often generate similar answers.

Personally I certainly weigh my type of answer relative to the type of question.

In the end your behaviour dictates the amount of success you will have on this forum, since it remains a community driven beast. Be respectful and get respect in return.

Re: Dont Shoot the Messenger

Thank you both for your respective replies.

Yes If I had the relevant books to hand when making a reply then yes I would quote the ref.
But when I do it from memory "on the spot" so to speak I do not add the reference in case I make an error with the ref I give.
Also some of the details I hold are on paper and the references to what was hand written years ago has long been forgotten.

All for now,
Thanks
Alex
