Need help to recognize 2 Bf110 pilots:
It seems that left is Johannes Lutter, right is Gunther Tonne.

Re: Need help to recognize 2 Bf110 pilots:
That's right. Bf 110 is Q1+VB from II/ZG1

Re: Need help to recognize 2 Bf110 pilots:
I am just cureous about emblem: was it emblem of Stab II./ZG 1, or some staffel of II./ZG 1, or some personal emblem of pilot...

Re: Need help to recognize 2 Bf110 pilots:
I don't know of a single aircraft of ZG 1 being lost or damaged with the unit code 'Q1'...

So. What would You say about some other photos with the same plane? Q1+VB. Some sources stay for NaGr 1 but look at Tonne's photo by the author of the topic and look at mine: You see the same plane. Also please note 12/StG 77 emblem. I have also 4 photos from another side where Q1+VB is recognised. Lutter and Tonne - are of ZG1, right? Another mystery? |

Re: Need help to recognize 2 Bf110 pilots:
mmoustaf,
It's obviously not uncommon for several units to be based on the same airfield. What also happened was that aircraft were transferred between units, or moved from a unit to a repair facility, and then on to another unit. I have a photo in my Classic book volume 2 on the Bf 110 which shows a Bf 110 with the Erprobungsgruppe 210 emblem slightly overlapped with the II./ZG 76 sharksmouth emblem. Also in the same book 2./Auf. Gr. 14 Bf 110s can be see with the emblem of 2./Auf. Gr. 123. I know Barry Rosch's book says that 'Q1' was a ZG 1 code, but I would preach caution on that point. If we ever meet up I would gladly sign your book for you. Regards, John Vasco

THX John for Your reply.
But what do You think about the pilots? Are they Tonne and Lutter?

Re: Need help to recognize 2 Bf110 pilots:
This Me110 and at least one Ju88 with similar markings ( skeleton hand and the black head signifying Schwartzkopf, the original Kommodore of StG77 ) were originally flown by the Stabstaffel of StG77. They were then transferred to NAG1 in Roumania in 1944. I therefore rather doubt that either of these pilots are the ones that you named. The aircraft were covered in an article in Jet & Prop in the last 2 years.
