C-47 loss 27. Sept. 44 Aachen
This C-47 crashed behind the German lines and the crew became PoW.
One Crewmember was a female Ltn, I believe an Nurse. Question: Go the Lady in the normal Stalag Luft or an German Hospital with wounded allied PoW? Or, an exchange with German Medical Personel in allied hands? ![]() |

Hans,
If you know the name of the nurse, you can see on http://aad.archives.gov/aad/fielded-...cat=WR26&bc=sl if and what POW-camp she was detained. Regards, Leendert |

Re: C-47 loss 27. Sept. 44 Aachen
Hans,
The nurse you're looking for was 2/Lt Reba Z. Whittle from Texas. It appears that she worked in the prison hospital of Stalag 9C. See also this link: http://stinet.dtic.mil/oai/oai?verb=...fier=ADA223404 Grüss, Leendert |

Re: C-47 loss 27. Sept. 44 Aachen
Hi,
Looks like it could have been 43-48395 from the 27th TCG. How many others in the European Area were taken POW ? Alex |

Re: C-47 loss 27. Sept. 44 Aachen
Thank you Leendert,
i had always wondered about all of those brave women who flew in the Dakota's just after d-day tending to the wounded, and as several Daks were downed it seems very likely that some of them were either killed or taken POW. Glad if she was the only one, and that she survived the crash and the pow camp. Alex |
