Re: 29.01.1945 - Typhoons
Hello Uwe
I am afraid your search will be fruitless as no Typhoons (or Tempests) were lost on that date, nor in fact any 2nd TAF fighters. CT |

Re: 29.01.1945 - Typhoons
Yes, the claims were made but the pilots were mistaken. Perhaps they were USAAF aircraft. Alternatively they may have fired at Typhoons or Tempests - but none were lost and I have not even come across record of any damagedon that day.

Re: 29.01.1945 - Typhoons
Uwe,
Chris Thomas mentions only one loss in his Typhoon & Tempest story on that day. RB271 was damaged/destroyed in landing accident due to engine failure at B.70 Deurne. Regards, Michal |

Re: 29.01.1945 - Typhoons
Hi,
Closest Tempests that I could find were two from 80 Sqdn . Serial numbers unknown to me . First on the 27th Jan 45 caught fire at B.80. Second was 28th Jan 45 Cat E after returning from ops. Next were two on the 1st of February both pilots POW. They were 3 and 274 Sqdn aircraft NV681 and EJ762. From the 8th AAf on the 29th I could only come up with A P-51 hit by flak near Geldern 355FG pilot also POW. And two from the 359FG Marr bailed over Sanites, France and evaded and Madison bailed over Exeter. And from the 9th AAF website I could see that Luc has only an F-6 and four P-47's. F-6 from 69RG P-47 two from the 354FG and one each from the 36 FG and 358FG. Alex |
