Does anyone have info/photo of Bob Holland 92 Squadron 1940
Hi all,
I am looking for a photograph of Bob Holland who flew with 92 Squadron in 1940. I am also trying to discover the individual aircraft letter and serial number of the Spitfire he was shot down in on September 15th 1940. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer. Gerry |

Here's what I have found,
http://www.the-battle-of-britain.co....rons/92sqn.htm http://hsgalleries.com/spitfireidt_2.htm On this page, http://www.battleofbritain.net/0042.html I found this, but I believe the S/N is wrong. R6606 lived on until 1943 ( see webpages below). 1450hrs: Ashford. Spitfire R6606. 92 Squadron Biggin Hill P/O R.H.Holland slight injuries. Re: Does anyone have info/photo of Bob Holland 92 Squadron 1940
Thanks to both Steve and Mike for their help.
I have checked The Battle of Britain then and now to confirm the serial number of R6606. I'm not so sure now though, especially after seeing R6606 still flying much later in the war! Anyhow, I will continue to look. Best wishes Gerry |

Quote:
The history of R6606 doesn't show it assigned to 92 Squadron. It does show it assigned to 74 Squadron on 10-6-40, but it did receive C3 damage on 15-9-40, http://www.spitfires.ukf.net/p009.htm R6606 Ia 691 EA MIII FF 13-5-40 9MU 15-5-40 238S 19-5-40 FACB 10-6-40 AST 74S 1-9-40 C3 ops 15-9-40 61OTU 1-7-41 53OTU 23-6-42 58OTU 28-1-43 flew into high ground West Cairn Hill Midlothian CE 17-2-43 SOC FH296.30 Who knows? Mike
I did some further reasearch after my original post and edited it and found out Holland was not on R6606 R6606 was being flown by by P/O A C Bartley of 74 Sqn when it forced landed west of Ashford on 15.9.40 NOT Bob Holland of 92 Sqn So we are still looking for a 92 Sqn Spitfire loss on 15-9-40 for Holland |

Re: Does anyone have info/photo of Bob Holland 92 Squadron 1940
Hi Paul,
Tony Bartley flew with 92 not 74 Squadron. He was indeed involved in an incident on September 15th when he returned to base in Spitfire P9513 which had been damaged after combat with Do17's near Ashford. I am still fairly sure that Hollands Spitfire was R6606. Cheers Gerry |

Usually there's not enough information, now it seems there's to much. Perhaps a date has been transposed or a name inputted in error?

Re: Does anyone have info/photo of Bob Holland 92 Squadron 1940
Gerry, my references are as follows:
P9513 Air Britain Aeromilitaria Spring 2007 page 27 has P9513 to 92 Sqn on 7.7.40 and forcelanded Hawkridge, Cat 2 15.9.40 (P/O T S Wade OK) to AST (Air Services for repair) 19.9.40; R6606 Air Britain Aeromilitaria Autumn 2007 page 122 has R6606 to 74 Sqn on 1.9.40, shot down west of Asford Cat FB/3. 15.9.40 (P/O Anthony Charles Bartley slightly injured) to General Aircraft (for repair) 15.11.40; Notes: I know the Movement card says 74 Sqn and Fighter Command Losses (FCL) says 92 Sqn & Holland - But FCL also says Holland - Bailed Out, which could not happened. Other options include R6600 which reportedly had a crash landing on this date 15.9.40 (the assumption is this happened at AST, where it was after an accident on 19.8.40 while with 602 Sqn) - but if this was the case, why was it then sent to Scottish Aviation (i.e another repair agency) on 17.9.40, so the other assumption could have been re-issued to another Sqn and this was not recorded on the Movement Card Wade was with 92 Sqn BTW Trivia.. Anthony Charles Bartley (who I accept was in 92 Sqn) was Deborah Kerr's first husband |
