FAFL Planes in Tchad, Cunliffe-Owen OA-1 etc.

The Free-French FAFL use several interested airplanes at the Tchad-Front. For this planes I search for more informations:

Cunliffe-Owen OA-1, I know only this was an civil Tranporterplane and look as an to big P-38 "Lighntning".

Howard DGA-14, looks like an UC-67

Cant Z.1007 Bomber, where get the French this plane?

This Italian a/c, ex 204-4 broke its right undercarriage in Beyrouth (pilot Capitano Castellani) then got back by Free French and used by Ligne Aériennes Militaire (coded FL-AVM)

Info from the book : Croix de Lorraine et Croix du Sud 1940 – 1942 by Vital Ferry

Hans,

Some info on the Cunliffe here http://www.samoloty.ow.pl/str228.htm

It's in Polish, but with some effort the technical details can be distilled from the text.

Also some here: http://www.aircrash.org/burnelli/ch_oa1.htm

Regards,

Leendert

Hans,

Howard DGA-14 should read DGA-15? Lots of info about the DGA-15 on the web. See for example http://www.geocities.com/CapeCanaver.../4515/dga.html

Regards,

Leendert

Hello.

You can find an article in Ciel de Guerre n°14 about the Owen, printed out 10 days ago

You can buy it at French Internet bookstore http://www.atoutlivres.com/ (there is an English text, I think.

Hi

The three Howards were DGA-15P c/n 550-552 and serialled DFL-141-A to DFL-141-C and they were delivered late June 1942 to Africa, direct from New York harbour, as Ambulance aircraft.

Cheers
Stig

Thank you Stig for the infos...

In the last issue of ciel de guerre n° 14 that I already spoke above where I am the co-author ( with Didier Corbonnois) you have a profile of the DFL-141A and 1 photograph.

I didn't know the c/n of these planes so thank you again. I am always happy to learn something.

Re: FAFL Planes in Tchad, Cunliffe-Owen OA-1 etc.

Hallo Many

How nice to see some French authors beside CJE on these pages. Unfortunately I am usually one year behind in my buying of French books.
Since my french is lousy (very much unfortunately since I think it is a beautiful language as such), I do evaluate my books for a while. However "odd" topics fascinate me, and French aviation is full of them, especially in the turbulent years of WW 2.

I can only assume you are a member of Le Trait D'Union. If you are check page 21 in issue 237 (Jan-Feb 2008) where you have the callsigns for two of these Howards while based at Bangui in 1942-43. Got it today! Quite an amusing co-incidence...

Cheers
Stig

Hello Stig.

I am not a member of TU (Trait d'Union) but I Will see his last issue.

I am only a seacher and a little historian, I have tried my best in REPLIC, Airmagazine, Ciel de Guerre & les Ailes Françaises.

Even if to write is interesting, the best is always the research...

A bientôt l'ami.
