Nahaufklarungsgruppe information sought!

Hello all.

I am seeking any info on the following NAG13 pilots. Photos would be particularly nice! Period 1943-1944.

Lt.Schwantje-1./NAG13.
Fw.Schroder-2./NAG13.
Ltn.Klink-2./NAG13.
Oblt.Klein-Eins.2./NAG13.
Ofw.Arnold Weirauch-2./NAG13 (Shot down by own Flak near Guernsey on 28/8/43).
Ltn.Schluter-Eins.2./NAG13.
Oblt.Gundel-Stab./NAG13.
Ofw.Niense-2./NAG13.

Also looking for pilot details and additional info for the following.

7/9/43. 2./NAG12. Fw190A-3 (351). Overturned due to pilot error. FP Guernsey. 75% damaged.
23/3/44. Stab & 1./NAG13. Two Fw190F-1s (?) forced landed at FP Guernsey, one due to lack of fuel. Possibly after being attacked by Spitfire XIVs of 610Sqn.
7/3 or 5/44. NAG13. Crashed Guernsey. Pilot killed.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Steve.

Despite having been in touch with a NAG 13 pilot some time ago, I can add little else to your list. Klein was Volkmer Klein and yes, killed 15 oct 43 whilst Klink was later killed but I have no details. My loss list for NAG 13 for 1943 shows nothing on the Channel islands. What are your sources?

Re: Nahaufklarungsgruppe information sought!

Fw.Schroder,Ltn.Klink,Oblt.Klein,Ltn.Schluter,Oblt .Gundel & Ofw.Niense all made claims over or near to the Channel Islands and appear in Tony Wood's loss lists.

Lt.Schwantje is mentioned on Nick Beales 'Ghost Bombers' site as having baled out of his Bf109 over Alderney on 12/5/44.

Now, as far as sources for the losses are concerned I have to admit that i've mislaid these! Over the last few months I have started looking at all of my old notes and found the NAG losses on a working list on my PC. I remember obtaining them from a chap in Germany via a previous incarnation of this forum about four years ago. I made hard copies of the posts but several searches of my notes and the loft have failed to locate them!

So any help in verifying them would be great.

Problem is that for 1944, if the chap was not injured or worse, there will be no record. I have all NAG 13s losses and details of missions for the first few months of 1943 but that is all (apart from a number of photos but these are not on the Channel islands)

Re: Nahaufklarungsgruppe information sought!

I must correct myself!

Fw190 7th March, 1944. Crashed La Ponchez, Guernsey. Pilot killed. I have assumed NAG13 but for what reason I don't know! I think I asked about this one years ago but nobody could provide any further details.

The Fw190s on the 23rd March were possibly engaged by Nicholls and McFarlane of 610Sqn over Guernsey. I have the combat report claiming one Fw190 damaged.

Steve.

Hi Cheesey,

Have a couple more first names for you.

Fw.Schroder-2./NAG13. - Werner Schröder?
Ltn.Schluter-Eins.2./NAG13. - possibly Friedrich-Wilhelm Schlüter (1./NAGr. 13), DKiG 17Oct43 (unit listed as 1.(H)/13)

Best Regards

Andy Fletcher

Done some more digging. Oblt Fritz Gundel of 1/NAG 13 was wounded at Buc 12 Aug 44 in a strafing attack and I have a photo of Klink but still nothing on how he was killed

Re: Nahaufklarungsgruppe information sought!

A bit more info.

Lt.Schwantje-1./NAG13. - Oblt Werner Schwantje, T.O. NAGr. 13 Jun44-May45
Oblt.Gundel-Stab./NAG13. - Oblt Friedrich Gundel, Stab/NAGr. 13 (as of Dec43 (as a Lt)), St.Fhr. 1./NAGr. 13 ?-Aug44 (which ties in nicely with the info from Chris).

I can only add that Oblt Schwantje was born in 1923 and Oblt Gundel, was born in 1917
