1Lt. Nicholas MEGURA 4th FG
Hello,
On 27th March 1944, Lt. MEGURA damaged a Me 109 in Angers area (West of France). Questions : - which plane did Lt. MEGURA fly ? P47 or P51 ? - to which Luftwaffe unit did this Me 109 belong ? In March 1944 the rank of MEGURA was 1rst Lt. He became a Captain "some time" later. Question : when ? Could anybody answer ? Merci Pierre BABIN |

All of Megura's claims were while flying the P-51. On March 27 he was flying one coded QP-N, which was probably P-51B 43-6636 "Ill Wind". On April 24 he was a 1st Lt; by May 22 he was a Capt. I don't have the date.
Frank.

Megura claim
The vast majority of "damaged" records for Luftwaffe a/c for 1944 are missing. The units operating in the west of France at that time were III gruppen of JG 2 and JG 26, with JG 2 the most likely. In fact there are two records for 8./JG 2 pilots as WIA. One West of Nantes and the other near Ancenis. Both these locations are within 30 miles of Angers. These might be candidates for your quest. Both a/c were 100% losses.

The only JG26 gruppe to operate on this date was II/JG26 (FW190s).
So it appears the ME109 claimed by Megura was either from II/JG2 or perhaps from one of the training groups in southern France. |

Claims
Thanks KB. Babin thinks the two I mentioned were Gabrieski's claims for that day. Because we are missing those 1944 "damaged" records, there may not be any record for Megura's
