2Lt Harold Hartney Jr. 56th FG
Does anyone know the circumstances of the death of 2Lt Harold Hartney Jr. of the 62nd FS 56th FG? The only listing I've found is FOD (?) May 13, 1944 which was shortly after he reported to the squadron. His dad was a famous WWI ace and his sister was in the Red Cross and assigned to the 56th's base at Boxted.

Re: 2Lt Harold Hartney Jr. 56th FG
2/Lt Harold E Hartney Jr was KIA on 13 May 1944 in 62FS 56FG P-47 42-75444.
The a/c was apparently lost to fighters and crashed at Brockenlomde (sic). MACR 4690 refers to this loss BC |

Re: 2Lt Harold Hartney Jr. 56th FG
"Brockemlonde" should read Brokenlande. Crash location of adjacent town of Grossenaspe is also given.
This all is just south of Neumünster in Schleswig-Holstein. Regards, Leendert |
