Re: He-111 werknumber 3822 3/KG 53

Hi,

Only information I have is:-

Crashed at Zeebrugge due to enemy gunfire during sortie, aircraft destroyed. Crew unhurt.

I have the date as 14th?

As crew were unhurt they are not named in my references.

Regards,

David

Re: He-111 werknumber 3822 3/KG 53

It is believed to be this He 111 which was hit by a 40mm Bofors crew from 158 (Light) AA Bty over Lowestoft. At 1308 hours an He 111 flying in poor vis at about 1,000 ft dropped a long stick of bombs from the Yacht Basin, across the main Bascule Bridge, straddling it, and causing a trail of destruction across the Harbour Works, 11 people being killed.
The next day a Surveyor for East Suffolk County Council at Pakefield, just S of Lowestoft, reported finding several large pieces of duralumin (sic) thought to have come from this a/c.
