![]() Have conflicting details on when No.218 (B) Squadron was adopted by the peoples of the Gold Coast in 1941.
The Squadron ORB has conflicting dates, August and then October 1941. Sir Alan Burns Governor of the Gold Coast visited the squadron in August but there is only a brief note, there is nothing in October. Sadly no one is the association is 100% sure. Can anyone please confirm when the squadron officially become No.218 (Gold Coast) Squadron. TIA

Re: Gold Coast
Hello Stephen,
From Bomber Squadrons of the RAF. "The Squadron was re-equipped with Stirling four-engined bombers(the first of the real heavies) beginning in December 1941 - three months after His Excellency the Governor of the Gold Coast and the Peoples of the Gold Coast territories officially adopted the squadron". Perhaps the Governor's visit had more to do with the Presentation Wellington's ? Hope this helps Alex |
